Introduction

It started in many ways several years ago with a juice fast and I recorded my experience on YouTube. While ultimately this was not something that would work for me longer-term, this was indeed the beginning of me looking even deeper into what was happening to my body when I did these things.

For over 40 years, we have been taught that fat is bad, meat gives us cancer, vegetables are healthy, sugar is good in moderation, and seed oils and processed foods are nothing to worry about. But the actual truth is that if you take that and turn it upside down and inside out, you then have something that is very close to being extremely healthy, and that has been my journey. One of education and self advocacy.

I have been vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic, and tried many other styles of eating to handle my type two diabetes. But if you would have told me in the mid-80s the diet that I would be consuming today, that makes me feel best, on top of my game and feeling as though I am invincible, I would never have believed you.

Please go through the list of topics below, watch the videos, check out the books, and come to your own conclusions. I guarantee that if you do your homework, by the end of this blog post, you will be shocked, and your life hopefully will be changed forever.

Hello everyone, it's Andrew here. I'd like to share my journey towards better health by embracing a ketogenic diet and becoming my own advocate in managing my health. I began cataloging my readings and experiences to help myself and others who might be struggling with similar health issues. This post will delve into my personal experiences, the importance of being well-informed, and the benefits of a ketogenic diet in managing health concerns.

Idealogy & Confirmation Bias

My purpose has not been to stick dogmatically to any singular ideology, but rather to find protocols and experiment on myself to discover how I perform best. I have gone through the landscape of foods and dietary guidelines and found something that has given me back the youth and vitality that over time I expect will show just how well I have bee healing internally. I have reached moments along the way which have been ramifications of past habits which lasted for years.

The latest of which was a sluggish liver and gallbladder due to all the sugar and processed foods I was consuming for years.Swinging over to an all-meat diet then showed the kinks on my armor and I paid the price.

So with renewed effort and a cleanse of my liver and gallbladder, I flushed my system out and doubled down once more in my new lifestyle. I knew this would not be plain sailing, but it took every ounce of me to fight with doctors when I found myself in hospital to not have them cut me open and take out whatever they wanted.

My Health Struggles and Realization

At the beginning of the pandemic, I wasn't taking good care of myself. As time went on, I started treating myself to treats more, turning a blind eye to the amounts of Standard American Diet (SAD) foods I was consuming. Whether it was for comfort or just throwing caution to the wind. My diet got worse, and I didn't realize that I was becoming more and more sick, because on the surface I felt not too bad at all. It wasn't until I got a cold that turned into bronchitis that I went to the doctor and found out just how high my blood pressure, blood sugar, and other health metrics were.

The Importance of Being Well-Informed

In this journey, I've learned that it's crucial to find a healthcare professional who's well-versed in the latest literature and research to ensure you receive the best care. By consuming more information, you'll become your own health detective and better understand the mechanisms behind disease and wellness. Although it's important to listen to doctors and hospitals, you should also be your own advocate and stay informed about your health.

Sometimes, different doctors may focus on various symptoms, but they might all be part of the same issue. For example, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and organ problems might all be connected to hyperinsulinemia, where too much insulin is released, and the body's regulation is out of balance. It's essential to take a holistic approach when addressing health issues, as treating just one aspect may not provide a comprehensive solution.

Adjusting My Diet and Learning About Insulin

In my journey, I've adjusted my diet and learned to control my portion sizes. I've also realized that insulin is a key factor in my health, much like an alcoholic's relationship with alcohol. Instead of focusing solely on blood sugar levels, it's essential to monitor insulin levels as well. The relationship between insulin and other health issues, such as cancer, heart problems, and high blood pressure, cannot be understated.

Monitoring Health Metrics

For those with type 2 diabetes, the problem often lies in excess insulin, which can lead to cancer, heart issues, and high blood pressure. The overworked pancreas struggles to keep up with the body's demands, resulting in a deregulated system. In addition to measuring blood sugar and blood pressure, monitoring uric acid levels is also important, as it's an emerging area of study with significant health implications. Uric acid is a byproduct of metabolism, and high levels can lead to gout, kidney stones, and other health problems.

The Benefits of a Ketogenic Diet

Measuring Ketone Levels and Monitoring ProgressIn addition to diet changes, I've been measuring my ketone levels. Ketones are produced when we burn fat as fuel. If you're measuring any ketone levels (0.3 and higher), it's an indicator that you are burning fat and keeping insulin levels low. By regularly monitoring your ketone levels, you can ensure that your body is effectively burning fat and maintaining a state of ketosis.

In my experience, using a combination of blood, breath, or urine tests can provide accurate and reliable measurements of your ketone levels. It's important to track your progress and make adjustments to your diet and lifestyle as needed to continue reaping the benefits of ketosis.

The Power of Self-Advocacy and Education

Throughout my journey, I've come to realize that it's essential to become your own advocate and stay informed about the latest research. With the myriad of different opinions and authorities out there, it can be hard to sift through the clutter and determine the truth. However, by educating ourselves and relying on solid research, we can make better decisions about our health and well-being.

By sharing my story and experiences, I hope to inspire others to take control of their health and explore different avenues for managing their health issues. Whether it's adopting a ketogenic diet, monitoring health metrics, or becoming a more informed patient, the power to improve your health lies in your hands.

Conclusion

My journey towards better health has been a challenging but rewarding experience. By embracing a ketogenic diet and becoming my own advocate, I've managed to take control of my health and make significant improvements in my overall well-being. If you're struggling with health issues, I encourage you to explore different approaches, stay informed, and be proactive in managing your health. With determination, persistence, and knowledge, you can overcome obstacles and achieve a healthier, happier life.
